On 4-5 December, a meeting under the theme “And what about you, are you green?” was held in France. It concerned issues related to environmental protection, economic development and energy.

Joanna Wieczorek participated in the Conference of the General Meeting of the Centre of Advanced Technologies AERONET “Aviation Valley”, which was held on 1 December 2015 in Rzeszów. The purpose of the conference was to summarise a key project titled “Modern materials technologies in aerospace industry”. The subject of the presentation of Joanna Wieczorek concerned the protection of intellectual property in the aerospace industry.

Krynica Vitamin S.A., a leading producer on the functional beverages market published a prospectus in connection with the initial public offering and the planned introduction of its stocks on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The preparation works concerning the prospectus and the initial public offering have been coordinated by the capital markets law team of SSW.
The business activity of Krynica Vitamin S.A. is based on the production of beverages and bottling services. Currently, the majority of the company's product portfolio is constituted by energy drinks but the group has a broad range of isotonic, hypotonic, metabolism boosting beverages and vitamin dietary supplements, functional waters, modern multi-fruit drinks, alcopops, ciders, malt drinks as well as selected CSDs.
The preparation of the prospectus and other activities related to the public offering have been coordinated by Dr Szymon Okoń, Partner in the Capital Markets Law Team of SSW.
“Company management vs. legal responsibility of management board members and the possibilities of its limitation” – SSW as a partner of the “Lewiatan” Academy
On 6 October, at the offices of the “Lewiatan” Confederation in Warsaw, as part of the “Lewiatan” Academy initiative, a training session titled “Company management vs. legal responsibility of management board members and the possibilities of its limitation” was held. The training was delivered by lawyers from SSW Law Firm: Dr Joanna Tomaszewska, Iwona Waglowska, Michał Badowski, Jakub Jędrzejewski and Marcin Muchowski.
The lawyers from SSW presented selected legal aspects concerning the activities of a company, which are relevant from the board members' perspective. They concerned, among other things, corporate governance, tax obligations, intellectual property and competition rules. The training was addressed to all the companies associated in the “Lewiatan” Confederation.
In a prestigious ranking of the rising starts of the Polish legal profession Dr Szymon Okoń, legal counsel, Partner of SSW was ranked in the second position.
The 4th edition of the competition and the presentation of statuettes was held on 29 October at the Olympic Centre in Warsaw. The ranking was organised by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily and Wolters Kluwer publishing house. The jury was composed of the representatives of the lawyers' community and journalists. The title of a “rising star” of the legal profession was awarded to individuals below 35 years of age who successfully combine a solid education background with work for demanding clients.
Dr Szymon Okoń has worked for 5 years. He has been developing his professional experience in the capital markets as well as in finance and banking departments.
The competition jury characterised Dr Szymon Okoń as follows: “He is a living proof that the day may be a bit longer than 24 hours. Otherwise it is impossible to explain the fact that in October 2014 he earned a double Ph.D. degree: first, based on a dissertation titled “The oversight over an investment company in Poland” he became a doctor in law, and then, with a paper on “The capital adequacy requirements vs. brokerage house security and efficiency” he obtained, with distinction, the title of doctor of economics in the area of finance. Currently, as an assistant professor at the Chair of Investment and Capital Markets of the Poznań University of Economics he is preparing for a post-doctoral degree and is actively teaching and lecturing.”
The first position in the competition went to Katarzyna Wiśniewska, attorney-at-law from Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, The next position among the top 3 after Dr Szymon Okoń was taken by Jacek Błachut, attorney-at-law.
Dr Szymon Okoń makes it to the finals of the Rising Stars ranking: Lawyers – the leaders of tomorrow
Dr Szymon Okoń, legal counsel, Partner at SSW Spaczyński Szczepaniak and Partners law firm became a finalist of this year's Rising Stars ranking: Lawyers – the leaders of tomorrow, organised by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily and Wolters Kluwer publishing house. This prestigious ranking presents thirty young lawyers with excellent career prospects, who were selected by a jury composed of the representatives of the lawyers' community and journalists.
The organisers of the competition underline that the title of a “rising star” will be awarded to an individual who can demonstrate a combination of a solid educational background and hands-on experience in working with demanding clients. Other aspects that will be taken into account include innovation, ability to recognise new trends, creativity as well as recommendations from clients and superiors.
The gala event during which the winner of the ranking will be announced will be held on 29 October in Warsaw.

An investment fund client who worked with SSW Spaczyński Szczepaniak & Partners finance partner Wojciech Szczepaniak describes him as: “Excellent, hardworking, available 24/7, attentive to detail, excellent negotiator.”
In the finance space Wojciech Szczepaniak acted for a construction industry leader on the financing for an acquisition. Szczepaniak also acted for a catering company on its debt restructuring via a debt for equity swap.
In the capital markets the firm is focused on debt matters. Highlights include Szczepaniak’s work for a leading construction company on its bond issue on the catalyst market. On the equity side Szczepaniak advised a manufacturer of alcoholic beverages on its dual listing on the French Euronext exchange and the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
In the M&A area the firm added Michał Badowski to its team, who previously worked for another leading Polish law firm. Major transactions include the acquisition of a logistics company by a construction player which was also supported by Piotr Spaczyński. On 22 September 2015, a meeting of the experience sharing club at the French-Polish Chamber of Commerce, meeting was dedicated to various aspects of the effective implementation of HR and remuneration policy in large companies. The discussion was moderated by Marcin Cetnarowicz.
Janusz Mazurek participated in the debate titled “Relief for the Courts, Empowerment of the Attorney”
On 16 September 2015, at the offices of the National Chamber of Legal Counsels in Warsaw, a debate titled “Relief for the Courts, Empowerment of the Attorney” was held. The debate was attended by Janusz Mazurek, legal counsel and Partner at SSW Law Firm, and concerned changes to the regulations governing the remuneration of legal counsels and attorneys for representation of a lawsuit, weather appointed by the court or chosen by the defendant.
