Joanna Tomaszewska, Ph.D., as a speaker at the “Personal Data Processing as a Part of Capital Group” panel organised by the BPCC with Inspector General for Personal Data Protection
On 23 April 2014, Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D., conducted the opening presentation at the “Personal Data Processing as a Part of Capital Group” panel organised by the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce. Wojciech Rafał Wiewiórowski Ph.D., Inspector General for Personal Data Protection was a special guest of the event. The meeting attended by Joanna Tomaszewska and the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection was held for the second time, SSW, along with the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce, is its organiser and conceiver.
Like every year SSW recommended by Legal 500. This year SSW was awarded in five categories:

On 2 April 2014, Maciej Kruś, Ph.D., took part in the “Arbitrariness in Administrative Law” scientific conference where he was a co-host of the presentation on the urban planning contest – the issue whether it could be one of instruments used to establish the purpose of the land and conditions of its development.
Dominik Strzałkowski and Barbara Koźbiał gave a speech during the “Contracts on the Power and Gas Market – Legal Aspects in Business Practice” workshops
On 31 March 2014, Dominik Strzałkowski and Barbara Koźbiał had their presentation at the “Contracts on the Power and Gas Market – Legal Aspects in Business Practice” workshops organised by the Nowoczesna Firma in Warsaw. Their lecture referred to a change of power and gas supplier.
On 29 March 2014, Szymon Okoń gave a lecture entitled “Operation of the Stock Exchange” as a part of the Stock Exchange School programme under patronage of Giełda Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie S.A. and the Association of Individual Investors.
On 28 March 2014, Paweł Mardas participated in the 7th Forum of the Management Board and Supervisory Board Office organised by the Langas Group in Warsaw. Mr. Mardas had a lecture on introducing the “Good Practices” procedure in the scope of organisation of General Meetings of Shareholders/Partners as well as summoning and progress of Extraordinary General Meetings.
In the 8th Ranking of Tax Firms and Advisors by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily, SSW took the 5th position in the ranking of the most effective tax advisory firms in 2013 and the 5th place in the ranking of the best tax advisory firms firm in 2013 (both cases – in the category of firms employing from 3 to 9 tax advisors). The criteria in the case of the most effective firms included income in 2013 per a single subject-related employee, the number of clients per a single subject-related employee, the number of successful court cases, number of successful appeals to the second instance, and the number of positive individual interpretations. The points in the case of the best firms were granted by the editorial jury for accomplishments of the firm.
Anna Piotrowska gave a lecture at the “Wasted Fuels. Alternative Fuels – Market Perspectives” conference
On 25 March 2014, Anna Piotrowska participated in the “Wasted Fuels. Alternative Fuels – Market Perspectives” conference organised by Abrys in Poznań. Her lecture was a part of the opening session and referred to the future of the fuel market as compared to legal regulations and practical aspects of losing the status of waste. The conference attendants included representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Environment.
Wojciech Szczepaniak gave a lecture at the “Private Client – New Era of Complex Management of Client’s Assets” symposium
On 6 March 2014, Wojciech Szczepaniak gave a lecture at the “Private Client – New Era of Complex Management of Client’s Assets” symposium organised by Trio Conferences in Warsaw. The lecture referred to the succession, i.e. inter-generation transfer, in practice.
Joanna Tomaszewska, Ph.D., and Tomasz Wickel have so far been Senior Associates at SSW. Starting from 1 March 2014, they joined the group of Partners increasing their number to 9 lawyers.
Joanna Tomaszewska, Ph.D., a legal advisor, deals with development of intellectual property practice at SSW, including personal data protection.
The main specialisations of Joanna include the law of personal data protection, new technologies and electronic communication, the law of media and advertising, and intellectual property law, in particular as regards copyright. Her professional experience includes working for clients of Polish and foreign capital groups on projects implemented in different sectors of the economy. Joanna is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a frequent speaker on issues of data protection.
Tomasz Wickel, a legal advisor, participates in further extension of tax practice and the area related to tax optimisation at SSW.
Tomasz specializes in the development and implementation of tax-optimal structures utilizing international planning, partnerships, investment funds and foundations. He advises individual clients on the creation of optimum structures, ensuring the security of property succession. He is experienced in transforming and restructuring capital groups, the taxation of financial instruments and the conducting of tax and court proceedings.
