Joanna Tomaszewska appeared as a speaker during the conference titled “Technologies and Solutions for Security Assurance and Management in a Firm”


On 4 July, the conference titled “Technologies and Solutions for Security Assurance and Management in a Firm” was held in Warsaw. The conference speakers included Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D. – Attorney at Law, Partner in SSW Partner responsible for the personal data protection practice and Tomasz Soczyński – Deputy Director of the IT Department of the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO).

The purpose of the meeting was to present best practices, tools and procedures with a view to ensuring security and protection in a firm.

SSW Moves Up in the Rzeczpospolita’s 2017 Tax Advisory Ranking


For 11th time, the editors of Rzeczpospolita daily have put up a ranking of corporate tax advisory firms.

In this year's ranking, in the category based on the number of tax advisors, SSW advanced to 24th place (from 35th in the previous year).

We notified 7 tax advisors and 1 person authorised to provide tax advisory services for the purposes of the Ranking.

In the category of tax advisory firms serving the largest number of public companies SSW was ranked in 15th place with its 9 public company clients.

Piotr Spaczyński Appointed Vice President of the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Confederation Lewiatan


Piotr Spaczyński, Managing Partner of SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners has been appointed Vice President of the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Confederation Lewiatan

Piotr Spaczyński, Attorney at Law, is one of the founders of SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners. He supports clients from the energy and production sector as well as the aviation and military industry. He specialises in issues related to proceedings to obtain concessions as well as environmental and investment decisions. Additionally, his experience includes advice in the area of public procurement law, commercial contract law and competition law.

He is the author of numerous publications on topics concerning the Geological and Mining Law. He regularly appears as speaker at industry conferences. For many years, he has been recognised and recommended by rankings and legal directories including Chambers Europe, The Legal 500 and IFLR1000.

The Court of Arbitration at the Polish Confederation Lewiatan has been operating since 2005. It focuses on the resolution of commercial disputes between both domestic and international parties.

SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners act as the legal advisor in the disposal of Awbud S.A.


SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners advised during a transaction for indirect disposal of shares in Awbud S.A., a company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, to Abadon Real Estate S.A. (company controlled by Murapol Group). Awbud S.A. specialises in comprehensive management of construction projects, starting from investment process management, through project design up to general contracting and subcontracting.

The advice provided by SSW included comprehensive support in the process of negotiation and drafting of transaction documents, including the investment agreement, and took into account the public status of Awbud S.A. On the part of SSW, the engagement was led by lawyers from the Capital Markets Practice, Szymon Okoń Ph.D., Attorney at Law and Partner in the Capital Markets Practice and Katarzyna Dymel.

Capital Park S.A. issued bonds for total value of EUR 15.67 million. SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners act as the legal advisor in the process


Capital Park S.A, a leading investor and developer operating on the real estate market in Poland placed an issue of K-series bearer shares for the total face value of EUR 15.67 million. The bonds were issued under a bond issue programme. The bond redemption date falls on 27 April 2020.

The drafting of the documentation was led by lawyers from the SSW’s capital markets law team. The work was coordinated by Szymon Okoń Ph.D. – Partner supported by Dawid Brudzisz.

SSW and BPCC organised a meeting titled “One Year to GDPR – New Approach to Personal Data Protection”


On 25 May, a meeting titled “One Year to GDPR – New Approach to Personal Data Protection” was held in the British Embassy in Warsaw. The conference, which was co-organised by SSW and the British Polish Chamber of Commerce featured speakers representing SSW, Polish Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO), Ministry of Digital Affairs and BSI.  The event was attended by over 100 participants representing leading Polish and international companies and institutions.

The conference speakers were: Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D., Attorney at Law, SSW Partner responsible for the personal data protection practice, Paweł Makowski - Counsel to the Polish Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO), Dr Maciej Kawecki - Policy Adviser in the Ministry of Digital Affairs which coordinates the drafting of the new Polish legislation on personal data protection, and Waldemar Gełzakowski – Lead Management Systems Auditor from BSI Group.

SSW Spaczyński, Szczepaniak & Partners and the British Polish Chamber of Commerce have the honour of inviting you to a meeting titled “One Year to GDPR – New Approach to Personal Data Protection” to be held on 25 May 2017 at the British Embassy in Warsaw. The speakers will include the representatives of the Polish Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO) and the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

The new regulations will be discussed by:

  • Paweł Makowski - Counsel to the Polish Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO)
  • Dr Maciej Kawecki - Policy Adviser in the Ministry of Digital Affairs which coordinates the drafting of the new Polish legislation on personal data protection,

New EU regulations on personal data protection (GDPR) will apply as of 25 May 2018.

The objective of the regulation is, on one hand, to align the laws within the EU and adapt them for digital environment of personal data processing, and, on the other, to strengthen the EU citizens’ data protection.

The current transition period should be used for getting ready for the new requirements so as to avoid heavy financial penalties envisaged by the new regulations.

SSW and the Polish Confederation Lewiatan organise a meeting on “Revolution in Personal Data Protection – How to Get Ready for Change”


On 9 May, at the offices of the Polish Confederation Lewiatan in Warsaw, a meeting titled “Revolution in Personal Data Protection – How to Get Ready for Change” was held as part of the “Lewiatan” Academy.

The purpose of the event was to focus on the approaching changes in personal data protection at the EU level, and to provide guidance on how to get prepared. The topic attracted a lot of interest from invited guests.

The speakers at the meeting were Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D., Attorney at Law and Partner in Spaczyński, Szczepaniak and Partners (SSW) responsible for the personal data protection practice, and Anna Turek, Advocate, Associate in SSW.

SSW moves up in the 2017 Rzeczpospolita Ranking of Law Firms


Based on the number of advocates and attorneys-at-law were classified in 24th position (comparing to 29th in last year).

In 2017, we reported 36 advocates and attorneys-at-law to the Ranking, against 30 in 2016.

The ranking of law firms offering corporate services was prepared by the “Rzeczpospolita” daily for 15th time.

Anna Turek appeared at the conference “An Academy Tailored to the Needs”


On 26 April 2017, a conference titled “An Academy Tailored to the Needs” was held in Warsaw. The meeting was organised by the Polish Business Development Institute (Polski Instytut Rozwoju Biznesu Sp. z o.o.) and focused on the challenges faced by Polish universities in the age of technology and fast-advancing social and economic changes. The topics addressed during the conference included the definition of the development strategy in the institutions of higher eduction, creation of the university's visual communication system and e-learning. The conference was attended by representatives of the academia from all around Poland.

Anna Turek from SSW delivered a presentation dedicated to the security of personal data protection taking into account the specifics of the higher education sector in the light of the new EU's Data Protection Regulation which will come into effect as of 25 May 2018.
