The 5th edition of the conference titled “New Postal Law 2016. Law for Modern Deliveries and Digitisation of Communication Services”. During the conference, a presentation on the strategy for a single digital market in Europe and the related tax aspects was delivered by Agnieszka Pajurek, Tax Advisor, Senior Associate in SSW.
Joanna Wieczorek spoke during the conference on ‘Drones as a leverage for jobs and new business opportunities’
The High Level Conference on ‘Drones as a leverage for jobs and new business opportunities’ took place on 23-24 November in Warsaw, and was co-organised by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, EASA – the European Aviation Safety Agency, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency and the Polish Civil Aviation Authority.
The conference was opened with the speeches by Andrzej Adamczyk, Polish Minister of Transportation , Violeta Bulc European Commissioner for Transport and Patrick Ky, Executive Director of EASA.
Joanna Wieczorek, our aviation law expert discussed privacy issues in the context of safe use of drones during the panel titled: “Responsible use of drones. Challenges for privacy, education and soft law”. Other panellists included a representative of the Polish Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO) and Ms Trish Fritz – Global Public Policy Director GoPro.
The meeting was attended by over 300 guests from all over the world, including the representatives of European institutions, national aviation authorities, civil and military drone manufacturers, research institutes, academia and startups.
The topics discussed during the panels concerned the future of drone in the aviation sector, benefits for the economy and the public, legal solutions in the EU which should support the sustainable development of the industry, as well as the issues concerning safe integration in the airspace.
The Warsaw Security Forum, a high-profile conference dedicated to the defence industry and new technologies, was held in the capital on 26-28 October. SSW was represented during the event by Joanna Wieczorek – an aviation law expert and French Desk Director in SSW.
Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D. and Joanna Wieczorek took part in the IAPP Europe Data Protection Congress 2016 in Brussels
On 9-10 November, in Brussels, the Europe Data Protection Congress , i.e. the annual European meeting of data protection experts, was held under the auspices of the International Privacy Professionals Association (IAPP).
This year, the conference focused on the new EU regulations introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which are to come into effect across the European Union as of 25 May 2018. The conference panels were specifically dedicated to the discussion of the effects of the new regulation for the business, and the presentation of the practical aspects of the implementation in the entire European Union. The Congress was attended by Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D., Legal Advisor and SSW Partner, who is responsible for the data protection practice, and by Joanna Wieczorek, Manager of the French Desk.
SSW together with PSEW, PwC and DNV-GL organise a seminar on “The restructuring of bank indebtedness of wind projects”
On 18 October, a seminar entitled “The restructuring of bank indebtedness of wind projects” was held in the SSW's offices in Warsaw. The event was organised by the Polish Wind Energy Association. The partners to the event were: SSW, PwC and DNV-GL. The meeting was attended by nearly 40 participants. On behalf of SSW, the training was conducted by Szymon Okoń Ph.D. and Dominik Strzałkowski.
PlayWay S.A., a leading producer of computer and mobile games made its début on the Warsaw Stock Exchange yesterday. In the initial public offering, the company sold all the newly issued shares on offer, at the maximum price. The preparation works concerning the prospectus and the initial public offering were carried out by the capital markets law team of SSW.
PlayWay S.A. is a producer and publisher of computer and mobile games marketed both in Poland and abroad. To date, the Company, together with its subsidiaries, produced and published over 40 games, which sold or were downloaded all around the globe in around 15 million copies. Owing to a large number of publications, the Group is building its position in multiple segments of the games market, both for mobile applications as well as PC and Mac computers. Simulators are one of the key types of the games produced by the Group, including the subsequent editions of the flagship title of the Company: Car Mechanic Simulator. Currently, the Group is working on the development of over 60 new game titles and extensions, and in 2017 it is planning to enter a new segment of the games market and launch its first productions for PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
In the public offering 1.200.000 shares were sold, of which 600.000 are new issue shares while 600.000 are shares sold by the previous shareholders. Institutional investors acquired 1.020.000 shares, and 180.000 shares were allotted to individual investors. Individual investors subscribed for over 790.000 shares in total, which means that the subscription reduction rate in this tranche was 77.23%. The maximum price of the offered shares was PLN 52.00.

Patrycja Goździowska and Łukasz Karpiesiuk appeared as speakers during the “7th Annual International Taxation in CEE” in Prague
On 14 and 15 October, the 7th Annual International Taxation in CEE was held in Prague.

On 20 September 2016, a meeting titled “The approaching changes in personal data protection – the EU regulation from a practical perspective” was held in the IBB Andersia Hotel in Poznań. During the event, a talk on new legal regulations concerning personal data protection across the EU member states was delivered by Joanna Tomaszewska Ph.D., Partner in SSW. Apart from SSW, the event was co-organised by the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce (BPCC) and Omnitec.
