Anna Piotrowska

Senior Associate

Anna Piotrowska specialises in geological and mining law, environment protection law and economic law. She develops projects related to the obtaining of concessions for prospecting and exploring mineral deposits, whilst also ensuring that environmental protection laws concerning Nature 2000 areas are complied with.

Most recent projects:

  • She advises an international prospecting group on issues concerning geological concessions, environmental protection law, and environmental permits
  • She provides ongoing legal advice on public procurement law for an international provider of drilling services; she also advised an international entity involved in preparing the city of Kraków for the Winter Olympics in 2022
  • She provides ongoing legal advice  concerning environmental issues to a company involved in prospecting and exploiting crude oil deposits
  • She was involved in the pilot programme “Razem o Łupkach” (Together on Shale Gas) organised by the Local Committee for Dialogue on investments in prospecting and extracting shale gas

In the 2017 Legal 500 EMEA ranking, SSW was recognised the category of Energy and Natural Resources. The ranking specifically named Anna Piotrowska who successfully represented a leading production company in a concession procedure following the amendment of the Geological and Mining Law. Among other notable projects, the firm provided advisory services to another production company during an exploration project for the value of USD 1 billion.

In the 2016 Legal 500 EMEA ranking, SSW was recognised the area of Energy and Natural Resources. The ranking singled out the team which led a competitive licence proceedings on behalf of a Canadian production company against a leading Treasury-owned Polish production company and provides ongoing legal support for a company engaged, among other things, in lignite production. The jury supported its verdict as follows: “Dynamic changes on this market necessitate continuous learning and open-mindedness. She is supporting major international and Polish production companies and was involved in obtaining the first shale gas exploration licences on the Polish market.”
